Welcome to Tickwood
Many people have an instinctive belief that time spent in the countryside can be good for health and general well-being. Now almost 2000 farms across Europe have opened their doors and are demonstrating that a working farm can give children and young adults an uplifting and stimulating experience with lasting effects. Lasting effects – particularly for people disadvantaged by learning difficulties, mental illness or physical disability.
Today, Tickwood sees up to 300 children and young adults visit our farm and woodlands each week helping them increase self belief, self confidence and everyday skills.
Opportunities to Shine
At Tickwood we have many opportunities for further development. From extending accessibility and wheelchair access through more of the woodland, to small localised events (the special games) and larger festivals all targeted towards disabled and disadvantaged participants to exploit their individual talents and interests.
All ideas are welcome and we look forward to discussions on how you and your company can join forces with Tickwood and the Severndale Academy’s specialist teaching staff, can take a long term view as partners for an incredibly rewarding goal. Sponsorship can take many forms, supporting a particular project or a range of projects with help, mentoring, opportunities for the students or their products or financially. We would be pleased to receive donations for general contribution and use, but our hope is to devise longer term relationships both financial and participatory on more specific and individual projects or programmes.
For the older students we need to develop more opportunities for the world of work by linking with companies who would just like to be involved and then develop a relationship not only to benefit our students but also the companies’ employees.
The number of participants in the horticulture programme has increased, so has production of fruit and vegetables in The Walled Garden which are turned into products for sale by our students both at school and outside.
In the future The Orangery, a major project, will use a lot more of the produce to provide the children with their hot lunch and our Corporate Partners for informal meetings and corporate events which will be catered for by the young adults.
